Peranakan Museum, Singapore 新加坡土生华人博物馆 ...
Peranakan Museum, Singapore
新加坡土生华人博物馆 ...
The Peranakan Museum explores the culture of Peranakan communities in in Southeast Asia.
For centuries, the riches of Southeast Asia have brought foreign traders to the region. While many returned to their homelands, some remained behind, marrying local women. The Peranakan Chinese are descendants of Chinese traders who settled in Malacca and around the coastal areas of Java and Sumatra, as early as the 14th century. In the 19th century, the Peranakan Chinese, drawn by commerce, migrated to the bustling ports of Penang and Singapore.
This must be a documented photograph of a "Peranakan Trader",

The faces of Peranakan descendent's in Singapore ...
A really old picture of a Peranakan family ...
Depiction of a wealthy Peranakan family and their
house decorations with the antiques ...
Peranakan marriages seems to be documented as
lavished and a parade of the married couple is
a normal practice ...
The museum is housed in a former school called Tao Nan Chinese School, built in 1912 ...
Well, in the old-days, you would not have those "spot-lights'
in a kitchen cum dining area
on the ceiling ...
Door Gods is something very Chinese, perhaps not just the
Peranakans. You can still find pictures of Door Gods at
entrances in many houses today especially families
with the elder generation around the house ...
Door Gods are a symbol of protection ...

there is actually a replica of a coffin nearby ...

It is a wonderful clean museum with lots of information and
very educational ...
Installed in the former Tao Nan Chinese School, built in 1912,
this intimate museum possesses one of the finest and
most comprehensive collections of Peranakan objects.
Galleries on three floors illustrate the cultural traditions and
the distinctive visual arts of the Peranakans.
Drop yourself at the City Hall MRT, and you will be within 10 minutes
walking distance from the museum and many other prominent museums

Some like it, some don't 有人喜欢它,有些不喜欢 ...
From Marina Boulavard, Singapore ...
Extreme Tone-Mapping on 3 image HDR ...
These kinds of processing is fun
as the original image of the 3 exposure was not really exciting,
but some don't like it as they feel it is not realistic and natural ...
Simpler exposure blending of the 3 images (-0, 0, +1) still brings out
the highlights of both the sky and cityscapes but
without too much extreme conditions ...
I like both, it's fun for me to start to
play with photo software ...
Which one do you like, or none at all ?

Start of a simple day 一个简单一天的开始 ...
Singapore Botanical Garden
新加坡植物园 ...
Let me tell you a simple day in my own way,
I wake up 6 o'clock today
to beat the traffic
driving to work while others are still in bed,
car park is still empty when I reach the city
have my cup of coffee
when others are stuck in the traffic jam;
in the classroom,
I got everything ready before the students come in;
I close my eyes for half-an-hour,
and at 9 o'clock
is where my 'busy' day starts
for another Simple day ...

Is it true that duck meat is not good for high blood pressure 难道鸭肉不适合高血压的人 ...
I had a good dose of duck meat for
lunch just now ...
I am constantly forced to think about what
I eat or drink everyday,
but today I ignore my conscience
and go for it ...
Honestly, I never regretted it ...
It is common knowledge that
salt and alcohol are bad for the high-blood pressure ...
The main reason why duck meat is to be avoided
is because it is usually contains more fat then
chicken or even turkey, or is it ?
then again, we never know what the mass-produced
chicken or turkey was fed with.
Or, are fish really safe given the pollution and
whatever is now in the sea ...
