in Southern India the end of the harvest

it is observed as a 4 days festival called Pongal
...
It is like a Thanksgiving to the god for 
the plentiful harvest received. 
As I understand, it is a very big festival 
in Southern India and the tradition 
continues to be observed by the Indians in Malaysia
