Petaling Street
(Malay: Jalan Petaling, Chinese: 茨厂街)
is the China Town of Kuala Lumpur
which I remember coming to this place
very early in the mornings (around 6 am)
for Dim Sum with my dad some 35-40+ years ago
before he sent me to a Chinese School nearby,
that Dim Sum shop is still in business today
...
It would be a pity to let this somewhat narrow street
of perhaps 500m or less overshadow the many
fascinating facets of life within an around it
which unfolds on this street everyday.
...
The street is infamous for pirated clothes and accessories,
but modern Petaling Street has a unique soul
and heartbeat very much of its own.
...
The ebb and flow of life on Petaling Street is
at once charming and is still intriguing
despite it was thoroughly renovated a decade ago
...
Much like a theater play where actors enter the stage,
act their part, and then exit the stage
from dawn to dusk, each person who steps
onto Petaling Street
has a role to play,
from the curiosity of the tourists to the
not so photo-shy stall attendants,
no-nonsense locals, and recently
quite some foreign worker and
the ever impatient road users.
...
and heartbeat very much of its own.
