My first Project for 2010 今年的第一个项目 ..

My first Project for 2010

Over the weekend, I was posting photos from our Cameron Highlands trip
from last year November ...
Before the year end last week, I was pondering on what genre of
photography I should be working on for my first project ...

When I picked up my Camera on Saturday last week, I had my
mind set on macro for my first project of this year ...

In 2010, It has always never been easy to photograph macro as
I do not use a flash, but does a flash really provide all the answers to macro photography ...

I actually find it difficult to move around with the flash on the camera,
and I don't need my picture the size of a wall; so I resort to
higher ISO and exposure compensation as well as
look for as much natural light source ...
对我来说,有个闪光灯在照相机上真的感觉不舒服;

This method of photographing macro may take a longer time and not all opportunity
and conditions are possible (which may not be perfect) without the flash,
but I am not a perfectionist yet, so for now; these results will do for me ...
这种微距摄影的方法,也许不是完美的;

The series of shots are done at ISO 640 at F11 Aperture
(using Aperture Priority) with
around -1 exposure compensation
with a lot of natural sunlight on mid-afternoon 1st day of January 2011
using a Nikon D90 and Tamron 90mm Macro lens ...

Streams of Consciousness

Green is a color, the perception of which is evoked by light having a spectrum dominated
by energy with a wavelength of roughly 520–570 nanometres. In the subtractive color system,
it is not a primary color, but is created out of a mixture of yellow and blue, or yellow and cyan;
it is considered one of the additive primary colors.

But that is just so boring ...

as Green is just about LIFE ...

The biggest environmental challenge we face is educating people
about preserving the green environments we have ...

So much has been said but so little has been done ...

In the city without green, I see emptiness ...

The EXCITEMENT and ENCHANTMENT
of Green makes the world
a better place to live ...

Closer and Closer

I have frequented the Kuala Lumpur Hibiscus Park for the past few months ...
It is anyhow the National flower of the country ...

The Tropical Hibiscus variety grows fairly easily in the tropics ...

but however the blossoms are much larger in colder climates such as
those found at Cameron Highlands in the State of Pahang ...
I shall posts these larger species of Hibiscus from Cameron Highlands later ....

Do you know that Hibiscus blossoms are edible .....
Unless completely assured that the hibiscus in the backyard are safe to eat,
it is recommended that the dried blossoms are purchased at health food or organic produce stores,

Herbal and floral cocktails are catching on in bars across the globe.
Including the Hibiscus Recipe ...
and one can even prepare it in a simple syrup ...
I have tried once in a local bar in the city of Kuala Lumpur,
but I will let you judge when you have a chance to try it ...

There are a variety of colors of the Hibiscus flower and
I have found and photographed from white, black, to yellow, red and pink etc ...
I read that about 200 - 220 species are known to exists ...

Regardelss of the species (I think),
the stemlike filament seems to have similar structure and color ...
When you see it like this, you know it is a Hibiscus ...

Scarlet-Red Dragonfly meet

So, my project for the day was FLOWERS but instead I met a Scarlet-Red Dragonfly ....
at Kuala Lumpur Hibiscus Park two days ago ....

Whenever I meet a dragonfly, I will stay at the spot for more then just a few minutes ...

as it will just fly back to the spots in front of you inviting and teasing you to photograph it ....

you can play with it from different angles, and it will show off its ....

Someone once told me I should be shooting these dragonflies in black and white but ....

maybe not ....
as I like them the way they are
especially this Scarlet-Red Dragonfly ....

Thank you little scarlet-red dragonfly
for spending 30 minutes with me
on a beautiful Saturday morning ...
Hope you like it !
