The wok of fury 愤怒的铁锅 ...

檳城 "炒粿條"
The Penang "Char Keow Teow"
...
Preparing a plate of flat, white rice noodles is
an art form that has been perfected here
by the generations of migrants from china in Penang.
Stir-fried in a huge wok, the rice noodles
are skillfully tossed with
prawns, egg, chinese sausage, cockles,
bean sprouts and a sprinkle of chives.

Eerie feeling of the changing world 变化中的世界, 阴森的感觉 ...

Old coffee shop 旧咖啡馆 ...
Lebuh King ...
Georgetown Penang 槟城 乔治敦 ...

I was born in the 60's ...
in the 70's, a bowl of WanTon Noodle cost $0.30 Ringgit,
in the 80's, you can get one at $1.50 Ringgit,
in the 90's, $2.50 Ringgit will do,
Beyond 2000, a bowl was selling at $3.50 Ringgit,
In 2011 today, you may not get a bowl with $4.50 Ringgit ...

For the past 15 years, I have
never had a salary increase nor bonus ...
but I am still glad I still have a job ...

The thought of the shrinking money scares me a little
as I am close to retirement age ...

I wonder what a bowl of Wonton Noddle will cost
10 years from now,
if I live to see it ...

When I was young (well, in high school), I have always
wanted to be an Architecture ...
I started my first year University in Architectural school,
I got all grade "B"s in my design classes
while all other classes I completed easily with "A"s ...

At the end of the first year,
I asked the "Acrh 102" lecturer,
why didn't I do well in the design classes ...
the answer was quite simple,

" I may not be artistically inclined" ...

I was disappointed at myself and
thought if I can't be a great Architect,
I might as well quit early and
do something else ...

So, I changed my discipline and finished
with an Industrial engineering and management degree.

The rest is history ...

The thought of the fact that I could have been
an Architect or perhaps somethings else,
maybe a Chef or a Photographer ...
have haunted me in the past many years ...

For what if I have taken another path in my life,
what would I be today ...

鸭肉粿汁 (粿汁)
Duck meet Noodle Soup

While in Penang, my students recommended me for some Koay Chap
or Duck meet/intestines Noddle Soup 鸭肉粿汁 (粿汁) ...

The closest hawker stall within walking distance after my lecture was
the hawker stall in Kimberley street ...

I had two of these ...

The cook looked at me when I ordered another one ...

I heard you have to queue up later for the duck meat noodle soup if
you come here later in the evening ...

Kimberley street is packed with hawker stalls on both sides
of the road,
Here is another stall literally translated as
"Emperor's chicken feet noddle soap" ...
天皇鸡脚粿条汤 ...

I did not have the stomach for something else
after two bowls of duck meat noodle soup ...
maybe next time ...
