I'm not a religious person but i want to be believe in god ...

Too much of anything is never good

Boat Quay, Singapore

I do not condone or encourage too much alcohol,
I realized my dad passed away perhaps due to too much alcohol consumption ...
that was many years ago ...

Lately, I had spent too much time with my camera and photography,
and I neglected my "going to the gym" schedules ...

Before I picked up the DLSR 16 months ago, I visited the gym
almost everyday or sometimes twice a day before and after work,
and I was never sure whether that was a good thing ...

but

in my opinion ...

Too much of anything is mostly never good,

Just one more before on the road ...

I am a free thinker, I do not condone drinking alcohol and I do not encourage "too much of it" either ...

The meaning behind a photo

I met Mr Zul on a wet afternoon in the park,
My new friend just bought a Nikon D200 and has been shooting
almost everyday for several months ...

We discussed about photography while walking about
hunting for shooting subjects ...

Is there a meaning in a photograph ...

He did not know that I just started photography not too longer
ago as I started to talk about the importance of composition
over technique ...

Zul posted quite a number of his photographs in some
forums and got some harsh remarks from the so-called "pros" about meaning in
his photos ...

Mr. A ... Lost in Photography ... Finding the meaning in every shot ...

He asked me about my thoughts of meaning
behind a photo ...

I told Mr Zul the following
I rarely seek out "meaning" when I shoot.
I think I am interested in light, and its interplay over natural or non-natural forms.
 I don't seek a larger meaning than that ...
And sometimes, I just shoot because I like it ...

Is there a meaning in a photograph ...

I don't carry tons of gadgets or take 500 shots and 2 hours for a single subject
to get the supposedly "perfect" shot ...

Maybe I am not a perfectionist,
and do not deserve to be in the same league of the "pros"
and so e it
as I just love photographing ...
that is a good enough reason for me to click the shutter ...
and continue shooting the way I like it ...

Cry of the Leaf

Cry of the leaf

Did you hear the leaf cry ...
The cry of the leaf makes me sad when photographing it ...

It wanted to tell me something,
but my limited senses were not able to grasp its feelings ...

Think again,
even if we understand the words between human beings,
we sometimes chose not to listen ...

Maximum Risk

Globally, the cessation of increase in nuclear power plant construction
came with the more catastrophic Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

But the world may seem to have forgotten the horror incidents
of Chernobyl ...

Until today, in these recent weeks ...
two words are on the lips of every scientist and government official
on the planet: Japan reactor.

Minds on Fukushima ...

Nuclear_2

Minds on Fukushima ...

Nuclear_4

Minds on Fukushima ...

Nuclear_6

No one knows yet how much of an impact, if not financial or
otherwise more importantly
the global health impacts,
of the leaks at Japan’s reactor will have.

In the wake of Japan’s nuclear disaster,
will any country still pursue nuclear power?

Unsure of Future

Unsure of Future

The Giant Japan 9.0 earthquake shook up the entire planet ...
and shifted the earth's axis
of what seems to be six-and-a-half inches....
shortening the day just a tiny little bit ...

All these seems to be measurable ...
But I suppose no single scientist can be sure
of where and when the next earthquake will happen
and its ultimate impact ...

God bless us all ...

Leaves of the same tree

We are all but recent leaves of the same tree,
we live together but may never know each other,

at old age ...

some whithered away
in loneliness until its demise;

some clinging on,
hoping to find shelter among the young in its remaining days ...

Behind bars

Shadows behind bars

I have just realized
that we have always locked ourselves in our own homes behind bars
much like in a prison except that we have the keys ...

We seem to despise those who live in prison behind
bars for what they did wrong ...

Did we do anything wrong to imprison ourselves
in our own "homes" ...

The shadows did not have a choice,
The prisoners did not have a choice,
But do we have a choice ...

Words from a dead leaf

From the faces of a dead leaf, I fear that
we will be cursed to struggle if
we continue to live with dissatisfaction ...

From the shadows of a dead leaf, I realized that
we will never live if
we are looking for the meaning of life ...

A sad soul

Thoughts on street wanderers ...

When the mind wonders aimlessly,
Searching for "nothing" in darkness,
The wait is an unbearable torture,
Staring with empty eyes,
I see nothing left
... but a sad soul ...

... aren't we all the same ...

Finding the truth

Finding the truth

As we walked up the hilly road to the temple at the summit, we met
this monk at the foothills starting his daily journey ...

the villages later told us that several monks does this ritual
everyday going up the hill ...

and when we left the temple walking down to the carpark at the
foothills of the temple ...

the monk was still working his way up every step bowing to the ground ....

I paused to wonder of not just what would the monk do next but also
what we would all do next
when we finally found the truth about life ...

One year of Photography

Looking back at one year of photography ...

It has been exactly a year since I picked up DSLR photography ...
There are still so much to learn despite only a few variables in a camera compare
to what my profession has to offer ...

Since the beginning of 2010, I have been planning to take some classes on photography
but still  never got around doing it ...
I may not have taken great photographs
You have taught me much through your photos ...
and I have enjoyed every moment with you ...

and sometimes I regretted never taking it up earlier ...
that much time have lost without a camera,
There are so many challenges and projects in my mind for the next year ...
Looking forward for another year of exciting photography
together ...

I think you would have the same aspirations ...
as we are looking forward for another year of enjoyment with our cameras
and to share them together ...

Without you, it will be a lonely journey ...

What you don't see is what matters most

Nov 18, 2010
Pasar Road, Kuala Lumpur

When you visit a City as a tourist, you probably will just see the glittering
lights, beautiful shining buildings or
those well maintained "OLD" structures meant to be seen by the public,
luxurious shopping malls,
obviously the clean and beautiful side of the city ...

However, what most people visiting a city sees
are not the real places most city folks do live in ...

But those who live here will survive without the
attentions needed to distract their
livelihoods ...

No matter how bad the economy is or how good it seems to
others, people in this part of the city goes through
their daily life the same or even worst ...

They can only bite their tongue through hard times
as no one will help them ...

many of my friends who once lived in these run-down shop houses in
Kuala Lumpur are now engineers and lawyers but they
do not want to be seen or heard in these neighborhoods ...

What will become the city of the future when
the poor will continue to be poorer
and
the rich continue to becomes richer ...

However, think again... some of these old shop lots
fetches more then 2 million per unit in today's market ...

The problem is that, those who own these shop lots are
now living in luxurious condominiums or houses and
renting these to those coming from the rural poor
or foreign labors ....

Is it ever safe to leave your child alone

How many times you see a child left outside when mommy is
shopping inside ...

With all the kidnapping going on everywhere, is it safe to keep your
child waiting for you while you are shopping ...
or
for just a short while when you get your keys or go pay for
the parking fees ...

something difficult for me to understand ...

Thank God, the world we live in is not a Bruce Willis movie.
It's a lot less dramatic.

But it is still a dangerous world out there,
leaving a child waiting for you
in this case of shopping for clothes
may take a little while longer and
ample opportunity
for whoever evil intended to do
something bad to your children  ...

Streams of Consciousness

Green is a color, the perception of which is evoked by light having a spectrum dominated
by energy with a wavelength of roughly 520–570 nanometres. In the subtractive color system,
it is not a primary color, but is created out of a mixture of yellow and blue, or yellow and cyan;
it is considered one of the additive primary colors.

But that is just so boring ...

as Green is just about LIFE ...

The biggest environmental challenge we face is educating people
about preserving the green environments we have ...

So much has been said but so little has been done ...

In the city without green, I see emptiness ...

The EXCITEMENT and ENCHANTMENT
of Green makes the world
a better place to live ...

Making a living in the city

As I had lunch with my students who all came from different cities around the world,
we had a heavy discussion on the following topic ....

"What is the best poor-friendly city in the world to live in ?" ......

With that thought in mind and as I was drinking coffee at this street-stall one morning,
a man in his 40's stopped his tricycle in front of my table
to collect and deliver gas tanks;
he seemed already tired even early in the morning.
Maybe he had already started his work cycling around the city
delivering and collecting the gas tanks 4 or 5 am in the morning ....

As the country is aiming/planning/gearing toward a so-called "High income" society,
what does it mean for these many poor-in-the-city folks ....

To make matters worst, it is not just the local poor-in-the-city
but immigrant workers are to be brought in from Indonesia, Pakistan, and
Vietnam to mention a few to fulfill the labor needs of Kuala Lumpur.

These immigrants are mostly working in construction sites and female immigrants
are helpful hands in residences as maids. Large portion of immigrants are being
promised ‘a good job’ into Malaysia and eventually
ended in low-paid jobs or worst, unemployed.

Urbanization is a normal process that many countries undergo
in order to develop and to gather and centralize the resources.
It also encourage migration of those from the countryside to the city
whom most will end up as the poor-in-the-city ...

The World seems to be always unfair to the poor ....

A social issue urgently needs to be addressed by those who desire to
help the poor-in-the-city and not just propaganda to the outsiders just
to see the beautiful side of the city of KL with its
high-rise buildings and expensive restaurants or shopping centers,
and million dollar apartments
.....
So, may I ask you this question again:
"What is the best poor-friendly city in the world to live in ?" ......
